Il-Ħidma tal-EkoSkola
Matul is-sena skolastika 2011-2012
L-edukazzjoni ambjentali b’mod ħolistiku fl-iskejjel huwa l-għan ewlieni tal-programm EkoSkola. Permezz tal-EkoSkola, studenti jieħdu sehem attiv fit-tibdil tal-ambjent tal-iskola. Din is-sena nħatar kumitat ġdid magħmul l-iktar minn studenti tal-ewwel sena tas-sekondarja. L-għan huwa li permezz ta’ attivitajiet, it-tfal, ġenituri, għalliema u l-komunità jiġu nkoraġġuti li jaħdmu favur l-iżvilupp sostenibbli u l-edukazzjoni ambjentali. Dan jista’ jintlaħaq jekk ikun hemm koperazzjoni ma’ entitajiet lokali li jinkludu kunsilli lokali, ħwienet tal-lokal, eċċ.
Dan il-proċess jiġi implimentat billi l-iskola jkollha kumitat li jiġi magħżul b’mod demokratiku. Dan ikun responsabbli għall-organizzazzjoni u t-tmexxija ta’ attivitaijiet relatati mal-edukazzjoni ambjentali. Importanti ħafna li l-ideat ikunu tal-istudenti; l-għalliema qegħdin biss biex jgħinu lit-tfal u jżommu l-ordni waqt id-diskussjonijiet.
L-ewwel pass huwa l-istudenti jidentifikaw is-suġġetti li ħa jieħdu azzjonijiet fuqhom. F’dawn l-aħħar snin sar ħafna xogħol f’dan il-qasam. Xi eżempji jinkludu:
- Separazzjoni tal-iskart
- Kampanja fuq il-ħela eċċessiva tal-elettriku – Energy Efficient Talk
- Energy Exchange Questionnaire
- Riċiklaġġ ta’ plastik
- Kampanja fuq l-indafa fl-iskola
- Aċċessorji tal-Milied b’materjal riċiklat
Dawn l-isforzi ġew ippremjati fil-bidu ta’ din is-sena meta l-iskola ġiet mogħtija l-Green Flag bħala turija tax-xogħol siewi li qed isir fl-iskola.
Din is-sena t-tema li ntgħażlet hija dwar il-konsum tal-ilma. Għal dan il-għan saru ħafna attivitajiet. Il-kumitat dar il-postijiet kollha fejn jintuża l-ilma madwar l-iskola u żamm rekord ta’ fejn qed jinħela ilma eċċessiv biex isir pjan biex dan ikun evitat.
Fil-15 ta’ Mejju, saret l-attività Green Peace Casual Day. F’din l-okażjoni t-tfal ġew murija vidjow dwar l-importanza tal-ilma, in-nuqqas tal-ilma u l-konsegwenzi ta’ dan, kif ukoll x’qed isir fl-iskola. Dan sabiex kull student ikun jista’ jagħti sehmu u jgħin sabiex jitjieb l-ambjent tal-iskola.
What is EkoSkola?
EkoSkola is an international programme run by the Foundation for Environmental Education. It invites schools to improve their own environment for a better quality of life, Kulleġġ San Benedittu Boys’ Secondary Kirkop being one of these!
EkoSkola aims to raise pupils’ awareness of environmental and related sustainable development issues through classroom study together with school and community action.
The main objectives are:
- create and raise awareness among the pupils, teachers, parents and the wider community on the environment and sustainable development through school and classroom activities and extra curricular events,
- encourage pupils, teachers, parents and the wider community in taking a more active role in environmental decision making,
- demonstrate the benefits of environmental management in areas such as waste, energy, water, air quality and landscaping,
- develop in participants the required skills to facilitate the implementation of local Agenda 21 processes, and
- initiate networks with local authorities, organisations and businesses to facilitate school-based community development.
Schools that have successfully achieved these goals are awarded a Green Flag – a prestigious eco-label that testifies the school’s commitment to fostering sustainable lifestyles.
