Year 11 students on mandatory quarantine during the exams
Please be informed that during the Year 11 annual examinations, running from 8 to 24th February, any students who will be in mandatory quarantine will be given the opportunity to sit for the exams from home.
Administration of online exams
1. On exam days, students in quarantine will receive a link and join an online class through MS Teams where an invigilator will conduct the exam with them.
2. When the exam begins, students will be given access to an MS Teams folder where the exam paper is stored. Students will then either print the paper and write their answers on it or view the paper on the screen and write their answers on sheets of paper.
3. It is important for students to write their name, class, and school at the top of each page they use (front and back). They also need to write the question numbers clearly on the sheets of paper and number the pages to be submitted.
4. For Language Listening comprehensions, students will be provided with a sound file to hear the audio recording. They will then write their answers on the printed copies of the examination paper or blank sheets of paper.
5. When exam time is over, students will scan each page using Microsoft Lens and combine the images in a single document. This file will then be uploaded onto their online folder in MS Teams. It is the students’ responsibility to ensure that all the pages have been uploaded.
6. The exam paper will then be corrected by teachers within their school.
Important information
7. Students should be in a quiet room and no other persons should enter that room whilst the exam is in progress. Parents/guardians may only help before the exam to set up the laptop/computer and with the printing of the exam paper if they are doing so.
8. During the exam, students are to keep the camera and sound of their electronic device switched on all the time. Additionally, the background should not be blurred out. The online exam session will be recorded, and invigilators will also point out any infringements to the administration. If students fail to abide by any of the rules they may be disqualified from the exam.
9. If due to any technical faults the exam is interrupted the parents/guardians need to inform their child’s school immediately by email stating the nature of the problem and the duration. If the connection is restored whilst the exam is still running they can continue the exam but no extra time will be added.
In preparation for this possibility, I am sending the attached PDF file with the step-by-step instructions to install and use the Microsoft Lens on your device.
Year 11 – ONLINE Oral Exams
Please note that the Oral Examinations in Maltese, English and the Foreign Languages scheduled for 15 February 2022 will be administered ONLINE for all Year 11 students. This measure is being implemented to remove the potential health hazard that may result when students meet different teachers in multiple classrooms and from students gathering outside of classes in diverse bubbles while waiting to do the exam.
All Oral examinations will be held on 15th February ONLY. Teachers will test their students through a Microsoft Teams one-to-one meeting similar to the meetings organized for Parents’ Day. Students will be given the day and time of their Maltese, English and Foreign Language appointments, similar to the table below.
Dismissal Procedure
Staggered dismissal by class, at the end of the examination session. An SLT member will coordinate.
• Year 11 students who go home on foot or picked up by parents are to follow blue path.
• Year 11 students who use the transport are to follow the green path.
