Jeremie-Jo Zammit Young is our Young Reporter for the Environment whose investigation on quarries in Malta won him the YRE article best entry in the scholastic year 2019-20.
Jeremie’s eye for detail and vivid descriptions make his investigation a very interesting read, along with the numerous interactions he had with farmers, an architect and a resident who all explained the adverse effects quarrying has on the environment and the local community. His work was submitted for the Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE) competition. YRE is a programme designed specifically for secondary and post-secondary students. The main aim is to carry out investigations on local environmental issues and propose solutions through investigative reporting and photojournalism. The goal of YRE is to engage youth in resolving environmental problems and issues.
