The scope of the Learning Support Zone is to provide students with supplementary assistance in addition to the educational content delivered within the classroom setting. Students with Social, Emotional and Behavioural difficulties embark on various programmes in accordance with their particular needs. Ranging from: Anger Management to Emotional Literacy, Peer-pressure and Behaviour Modification amongst others, these programmes are meant to equip the respective attendants with the necessary skills and knowledge required to becoming more assertive and capable of making the best out of their skills.
Over the past ten years, we have had plenty of opportunities to delve deep into the lives of several students who have managed to change the course of their development thanks to the joint-team effort of the SMT, the BMT, the Guidance Department and the school staff in general. These different entities work simultaneously with the intent of rendering the life of every student as fulfilling and fruitful as possible.
The diverse resources trapped within the colourful environment play a crucial role in the session’s outcome. Besides the highly relevant content in relation to the individual needs, the flexibility of the lesson’s structure enables us to adapt ourselves to the students’ needs; gearing matters in ways that best elicit the lesson’s objectives. Typically initiated by means of a circle time, sessions develop into open-ended questioning; prompting versatile discussion sustained by means of educational clips followed by other tactile activities aiming to consolidate the topic’s objective. Besides, we also like to interfere with students during break-time and corridor supervision so as to get to know them from a different perspective apart from the classroom environment.
Building a trustful relationship with the students, showing them that you find meaning in what you do whilst believing in their potential and showing constant interest in their holistic well-being, is one of the most vital aspects of a productive and successful educational setting!
